Portion RuAiy - of Blessings and LIFE at the Jerusalem Great Synagogue

Portion RuAiy - of Blessings and LIFE at the Jerusalem Great Synagogue

Yesterday a Rabbi teaching us at
The Kolel of the Jerusalem Great Synagogue

bent over his podium and asked

"Why in this portion does it mention Blessings and Curses

(Are they Opposites?)

While Portion Nitzavim in a couple of weeks  mentions

Life And Good
And
Death and Evil"
?

So he connected the different concepts to - what?

The mother of Sisra?

To remind us all - Sisra was a murderous general

Who attacked and robbed Jewish towns

Until defeated  by

Devora (a woman prophetes) and Barak

And outwitted - and killed-  by Yael - wife of Chever

Of the tribes descended from Jethro
Father in Law of Moses.

The mother waited for Sisra to bring her the spoils of his attacks on the Israelites - as usual -

But she knew that he must have met his death
When he didnt come riding in with spoils.

We pray daily:
May the armies of evil be destroyed  and our captives returned!

So the Rabbi explains that as Portions come
Closer to Rosh Hashono
They try to get us a little serious about LIFE.

Each Day May we all be closer to LIFE than yesterday.

Now AS USUAL - A Little Wisdom Message  from

Reb Shlomo Carlebach - on Parshat Re’eh

This Shabbos will be blessing the new month of Elul,

The Torah portion read around the New Month is always “Re'eh Anochi”,

So in Chassidus, it says "Re'eh Anochi", I'll show you your Anochi, your "I".

I will show you what you can be, what you are supposed to be...

The world always thinks that in order to fit into a society, you have to give up your individuality. The more you become a bagel, the more you fit.

But in G-d's society it's the other way around.

...

you mamesh have to connect to your own self.

You know friends,
...

The highest vision in the world is that we can mamesh turn the whole world on to G-d.

Why was Israel given to Avraham and not to Moshe?

the greatest expert on knowing what us Jews need to do is Avraham Avinu.

Maimonides says that Avraham Avinu was praying to G-d saying 'can you at least have one family in the world who will always be believing in you?’ So G-d says ‘not only do I grant you, your wish, it will be your family’
...

. You see what it is, this was mamesh Avraham Avinu's vision

, that until the end of  days there will always be one family, one nation who believes in you (G-d)

and hopefully will turn the whole world onto you!

Good Shabbos! From Rabbi Shlomo

Looking forward to getting closer
To the Almighty and Rosh Hashono
