Portion Behar BeChuKoTai – the week a Couple was Murdered in DC
What a couple of weeks (and years) it's been lately!
And we just got a satellite warning that more missiles are being aimed at us!
So today I went to visit a friend who has been crying over this - and the current US anti-semitism.
It's because no one in the world knows the REAL Jews!
I prayed in Jerusalem this morning after which a lecture on the portion was given – by one of the teachers in the GREAT SYNAGOGUE (who by-the-way donated a kidney recently - an amazing act of mercy - and faith).
The haftaras and the double portion he explained – in brief – discuss some of the approximately 180 MITZVAS of the Torah RELATED TO THE LAND OF ISRAEL (out of 613 in total).
Later in the Torah it says "if you don't observe those laws then the Land will kick you
out".
It's not a simple equation - but history has proven Moses' Torah is TRUE!
We need to trust in the equations of the Almighty!
Rabbi Carlebach points out "What's so hard about not working the land" every 7th
year?
Rabbi Hirschler pointed out this morning that "it's ALL about trusting in the Almighty".
We were exiled for 70 years by the Babylonians – after our forefathers ignored the
laws of the Sabbatical Year 70 times!
Friends we have to trust in the teachings of the Almighty!
Afterwards a friend offered me a lift!
So we rode to visit the Kever – the Grave – of another inspiring teacher of mine – Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach.
Here is something he taught from these Portions – about the Holiness of the land.
"
Now imagine the Torah would tell you what you get for every good deed, it would be like a store. I buy apples for twenty-five cents, so I get two apples. I'm going to G-d saying "Listen, I'm putting on my tefillin, I should get this. I'm keeping Shabbos, I should be getting that." Friends, it would be the end.
...
You think G-d looks up in the yellow pages and checks to see how much I get?
It is the most individual thing in the world; it cannot be written down.
...
you know what the paying is? The paying is the utmost G-d revelation which
just has to do with you, just you.
This utmost revelation is on Shabbos when I don't do anything specific.
This is what takes place on the seventh and fiftieth year in the Holy Land.
I get a taste of something so personal and private which is just between me and G-d.
Good Shabbos"
AND PRAY FOR A BETTER WORLD
Shabbat Shalom
