Portion Shoftim ...Kings and Cops. (And WATCH: 2,800-year-old mega-dam unearthed in Jerusalem
The portón begins with:
SHOFTIM who are Judges
SHOTRIM who are police.
In the miðle it tells us
"Laws of Jewish Kings"
And ends with Priests -a Kohain- and Police!
This portion points to Who is the most powerful?
Jews or traditional Beduin Arabs OR
Maybe Corrections Officers- or is it Judges or ?Policemen ?
?
Last night I was at the wedding of a neighbor's
daughter.
The neighbor is a Corrections Officer – and all his kids are the greatest and most helpful ! Since we met them even before we moved in some months time ago.
Today the (Jewish) Air Conditioning repairman came in – and we spent 2 hours discussing archaeology and history of the area (besides testing a couple of our air conditioners).
He also told us of some wonderful Beduins he visits living on a hill in the area are – and how they have shown him caves where the local Jews lived over 2000 years ago!
(You can tell by the grooves in the entrances where Mezuzas used to be – and by the types of pottery and clay lamps – and the ancient Jewish coins they showed or sold him)!
Those Beduins explained how they are the original Moslems – pre-dating most followers of Mohammad and how they respect us and hate Hamas –
and how they live off the land herding their sheep and harvesting wild fruits and herbs and making olive oil in traditional ways.
We both agreed:
WHAT A LAND AND AMAZING PEOPLE ARE HERE!

And just a few words from my teacher
“Cause we all need each other,
well you know it's true”
from Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach On Parshat Shoftim
Shoftim Vshotrim Titen Lecho Bchol Sheorechu (The torah commands us to put Judges and guards at the entrance to all of
our gates.)
The Shelah HaKaddosh, The Holy Shelah, explains that the gates we are talking about this week, are the seven gates we
all have, (eyes ears mouth etc)
so listen to me my sweetest friends,
the Torah calls it Shaar a “gate”, the deepest depth is that they open for us all the gates of heaven,
Hashem wants to give us so much we just have to take care of the gates, like in jewellery shop they have the doors,...
when we talk and hear only good on one another, you think the Ribbono Shel Olam isn’t taking care of us? ....
You have to look for someone (a teacher) who opens your gates, not one who shuts them.
The Ribbono shel Olam says, “I promise you, there will always be someone who will open the gates for you.”
The Ribono shel Olam is mamesh opening all the gates of heaven for us,
I bless you and me, when Hashem opens gates, we run to it And even more so, I bless you and me
we should open gates for each other.
Good Shabbos! (Rabbi Shlomo)
From AE: the portion ends with the (military) police excusing some soldiers from the army just before a battle .
What a history of kind Cops and Corrections officers and Beduin neighbors that fight in our
army against evil!
May we all be healed and saved and successful in everything
Shabbat Shalom
